Hoover High School Secure Entry

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Completion Date: January 2026
Project Size: 2,400 sq. ft.
Abstract: Creating a safer and more identifiable point of arrival, Hoover High School’s new secure entry addition brings enhanced security and a contemporary presence to the historic Des Moines campus.

At 1,700 square feet, the addition establishes a secure entry for students and staff while creating a clear, welcoming destination for families and visitors. Its location aligns with the school’s primary student access points and provides intuitive wayfinding for those arriving for academic and athletic events.

Two monolithic forms define the exterior, framing the entrance and giving the addition a strong architectural presence. Contrasting materials and bold graphics further distinguish the new construction from the existing building, creating a recognizable focal point and a renewed identity for the campus.

More than a security improvement, the addition contributes to the continued revitalization of Hoover High School. Balancing safety, function, and design, the project creates a contemporary new face for the district while reinforcing a sense of pride within the Hoover community.
